Acura, code-named NS-X

Model year 1990 will jump off with the first wave of Japanese high-performance luxury sedans (the Lexus and then the Infiniti), which will herd BMW and Mercedes into all time higher, ever narrower market niches. And the year will close with the debut of the super sports car we are all aware Japan could build, if it’s settled to: the mid-engined Acura, code-named NS-X. Honda can only assemble 6000 of these matters a year. The project price is expected to be closer to $55,000.
The NS-X’s core technical credentials: a 3.0- liter, four-cam V-6 delivering 270 bhp is raised amidships in an all-aluminum body, generating a curb weight of 2860 pounds. A five-speed gearbox and a traction control system manage torque going to the rear wheels; suspension arms that seem like delicate bones from a bird’s wing, replicated in gleaming aluminum, manage bumps; and four internally vented disc brakes with ABS manage speed. Honda’s projections and the test drive of a prototype in Japan indicate zero-to-sixty times in the mid-five-second range and a top speed above 155 mph.
